The BBC do pretty well to employ pundits that annoy us. Mark
Lawrenson’s predictions are dreadful, Alan Hansen is cripplingly
negative and Alan Shearer is as boring as watching dry paint dry.
Thankfully, they’ve managed to make it that little bit worse by allowing
Garth Crooks to choose his team of the week in the Premier League.
This week Garth really shows off his knowledge of football tactics
with his team of the week. He selects four defenders, which I think we
can all agree is fairly textbook, and adds to this with Javi Garcia, who
is a good defensive midfielder. But Crooks then leaves reality by
choosing five strikers.
Gervinho, Podolski, Defoe, Berbatov and Ba are the lucky men, and
Crooks somehow shoehorns them into a 4-4-2 formation by playing Gervinho
and Podolski in midfield, with Defoe an attacking midfielder in the
hole.
I’d bloody love to see him manage.
